Abstract

1,182,845. Handles for door latches. FRANK ALLART & CO. Ltd. 11 April, 1968 [14 April, 1967], No. 17142/67. Heading E2A. A door handle comprises a lever member 14, an attachment plate 10 and a subsidiary plate 17 adapted to be retained relative to the attachment plate, the lever member having a trunnion 13 which passes through holes in the attachment plate and subsidiary plate, which trunnion is adapted for engagement with a spindle of a door fastening device, an element 1-27 carried by the trunnion and having a portion 30 projecting outwardly of the trunnion and a resilient strut extending between said portion and a part 22 of the subsidiary plate so that the strut pivots about said fixed part during movement of the lever member the strut serving to urge the lower member to a limit position rotation to the attachment plate. In the construction shown the strut comprises a compression spring 45 wound about a rod 32 which is pivoted by one end portion to the radially extending portion of the element 27 and the spring extends into a sheath 48 which is pivotally received in a recess in the fixed part of the subisdiary plate. The holes in the attachment and subsidiary plates are large enough to receive a nylon bush (not shown) to provide an anti-friction bearing for the trunnion. A friction reducing washer (not shown) is provided between the lever member and the front face of the attachment plate. The element 27 is held in place on the trunnion by a circlip (not shown) and it is provided with two pairs of faces 33, 34, 35, 36 which are alternatively engageable with a flange 24 of the subsidiary plate to provide for left hand or right hand operation.
