Abstract

850,840. Sliding latch bolts. ANSALA OSAKEYHTIO. Feb. 25, 1958 [Feb. 26, 1957], No. 6056/58. Class 44. A latch mechanism comprises a spring-loaded sliding bolt 1 and a rotatable bush 6, which is so associated with the bolt 1 that on rotation of the said bush the bolt is withdrawn, the mechanism being such that the turning moment which has to be applied to rotate the bush remains constant for the entire withdrawal movement. The bolt 1 slides within a fixing plate 10 and has a shank 2 slidingly disposed in a U-shaped guide member 16, the shank 2 and guide member 16 retaining in position a compression spring 5 extending between the head of the bolt 1 and the surfaces of cams 8 integral with or fixed to the bush 6 which is provided with a square-sectioned aperture 7 for receiving an operating rod or spindle of a door handle (not shown). Extending from the head of the bolt 1 are two arms 3 which terminate in shoulders 4, the cams 8 ending in abutments 9 which engage the shoulders 4, respectively, so that on rotation of the bush 6 in either direction the bolt 1 is withdrawn and the spring 5 is compressed. A U-shaped enclosure member 12 is provided in which the bush 6 is rotatably mounted, the member 12 being held in position by openings 18 therein being engaged by lugs 11 on the fixing plate 10 and the guide member 16 is provided on either side thereof with projections 17 which slide within slots 14 provided in the member 12.
