Abstract
A lock (1) comprises a housing (2) and an operating member (3) for operating a control unit (4) that controls the motion of a latch bolt (5) in and out of the housing (2) along an operating direction (X). The control unit (4) comprises: an elongate polygonal member (6), or spindle, operably connected to a specially shaped cam (7) that is rotatably associated with the housing (2); a sliding member (8) that slides along the operating direction (X), is located within the housing (2), operates on the latch bolt (4) and is constantly in contact engagement with a portion (9) of the cam (7) for being moved thereby from a rest position, corresponding to an external position of the latch bolt (5), to a work position, corresponding to an internal position of the latch bolt (5); elastic means (10) for moving the sliding member (8) back into its rest position. The portion (9) of the cam (7) has a first substantially planar surface (12) for abutment of a corresponding second substantially planar surface (13) of the sliding member (8) when the latter is in the rest position.
