Abstract
901,013. Latch fastenings. GOWLAND, C. J. Feb. 12, 1960 [Jan. 12, 1959], No. 989/59. Class 44. A door latch comprises a housing 1, a spring- loaded bolt assembly slidable in the housing, a follower 16 coupled to the bolt assembly, and a rotatable out of a rest portion for withdrawing the bolt assembly, and a spring-loaded camming member 21 acting radially of the follower and arranged to urge the follower into its rest position. The housing 1 made of two parts 2, 3 which are joined together by a tongue 6 (not shown) on the part 3 engaging a recess 7 in the part 2 and also by a screw 8 which passes through a countersunk hole in the part 3 to engage a screw-threaded hole in the part 2. Within the housing is a fixed abutment member 9 and this has two recesses for receiving springs. One of the springs 10 urges to the left, as shown, the bolt assembly which consists of a tongue 11 fixed to two parallel plates 12, 13, each of which is apertured at 14 to receive a tooth 15 of the follower 16. The second spring 20 engages the camming member 21 slidable within the arms 22, 23 of the abutment member 9, the camming member having a nose 24 which engages a recess 19 of the follower to positively locate the follower in its rest position. When the follower is rotated to withdraw the bolt the nose 24 of the camming member rides up the adjacent tooth 15 of the follower and compresses the spring 20, thus the follower is urged to its rest position by the spring 20.
