A door handle assembly comprising a handle 2 or knob which includes a shank 3 which is rotatably mounted in an attachment plate 4 adapted to be secured to a door, the shank having in one end portion a non- circular hole 6 adapted to receive a latch operating spindle and the attachment plate being formed as a flange shell of sheet material accommodating a stop washer 7 secured on the shank for limiting the angular latch retracting movement of the handle or knob and for determining a normal neutral position to which the handle or knob would be urged by a spring, which is either accommodated in the shell or is the return spring of the latch, wherein the attachment plate has a hole of appreciably greater diameter than the outside diameter of the shank where it passes through the hole and a bearing member 11 having a neck 12 engaging the hole 10 in the attachment plate and formed by moulding in situ synthetic plastics material with a bore 13 for the shank concentric with the hole in the attachment plate. In the construction shown the bearing member has portions 16, 17 inside the attachment plate one of which has a slot 18 for receiving an end portion of a centring spring 9 and which also provides stop surfaces co-operating with the stop washer 7 for limiting the movement of the knob or handle. The spring and the stop washer are housed in a recess 23 between the portions 16, 17 and a closure plate (not shown) is provided which has a pair of lugs near opposite ends making it a push fit in blind holes 26 in the portions 16, 17. The closure plate has a hole for the latch spindle to pass through. The attachment plate is also provided with a close fitting facing cover 29 which is secured to the attachment plate by a screw (not shown) passing through a small slot into a corresponding hole 32 in the attachment plate and bearing member 11.
