Abstract

935,660. Latches. WILMOT BREEDEN Ltd. July 2, 1962 [July 11, 1961], No. 25133/61. Class 44. A handle for fitting externally on a door 31 of a motor vehicle and operable to release a locking mechanism 39, comprises a main fixed handle portion 30 adapted to be fixed to the door with its ends adjacent the surface of the door and shaped so that it can be gripped by the fingers placed between the main portion and the door, a spring-loaded pivoted member 33 partially protruding from the main portion on the inner side thereof, the pivoted member having a grip portion adapted to be moved towards the main portion when the latter is gripped, the pivoted member comprising a lever pivoted in a fixed part of the handle and having a cam surface 35 bearing against a co-operating surface on a further lever 36 also pivoted in the fixed part of the handle, the further lever 36 being operatively connected to the locking mechanism for the door to release a door latching member when the pivoted member 33 is gripped and moved against the spring force, the cam surface 35 and co-operating surface being arranged so that mechanical advantage varies as the pivoted member is moved.
