Abstract

928,543. Valves. CRANE CO. Feb. 28, 1961, No. 7287/61. Class 135. A pressure relief valve comprises a valve closure member 16 loaded by an adjustable spring 29 to close an inlet 8. The spring is housed in a valve bonnet 21 through which extends a valve stem 24. A cap 42 is threaded to screw on to the bonnet and encloses the projecting end of the valve stem 24. The stem has a collar portion 45 of reduced diameter which is slidable in a saddle member 47 retained in the cap by a plug 51. A gagging plug 54 is provided in the top of the cap and its end is spaced from the top of the stem to allow the valve to open and close in response to inlet pressure. To open the valve manually, the cap is unscrewed from the bonnet and in so doing the saddle engages a head 46 of the valve stem to open the valve. The valve may be locked in a closed position by replacing the plug 54 with a handle 57 which may be screwed into the cap and engage the top of the stem. The stem may carry spools 34 to prevent buckling of the spring 29 whose load is adjusted by a bush 37.
