Abstract
972,184. Valves. PEEBLES & CO. Ltd. Dec. 29, 1960 [Dec. 30, 1959], No. 44218/59 Heading F2V. The movable closure member 4 of a gas governor is connected to a dished diaphragm 5 loaded by a spring 6, the inner end of which abuts the central area of the diaphragm so as to be as close as possible to the closure member 4; the loading force is applied to the diaphragm below the level at which the gas pressure operates thereon, whereby the distance between the seat 8 and the top of the governor is minimized. The spring 6 is disposed in a screw 12 to which is threaded a knurled nut 13 locked to the screw 12 by a bolt 14; the nut 13 is arranged to contact the bonnet 7 to limit the downward force exerted by the spring. The lower part of the governor body is formed with a rectangular opening 10, normally closed by a plate 11, to obviate any restriction of gas flow through the inlet 2 and sideways thrust on the closure member. The inlet and outlet connections 2, 3, are in alignment and the seat 8 is located on the centre line of these connections. The diaphragm may be loaded by means other than spring.
