In a drafting arrangement in which a top roll carrier arm 7 and a positioning arm 11 are pivoted about fixed fulcrums 9, 10 respectively and are connected by a toggle link 15 pivoted at 16, 14 to the arms and locking the arm 7 in operating position, one of the pivots is movable towards and away from the other to facilitate operation of a detent means for locking the arm 7 in raised position when the arm 11 is locked in lifted position. In Figs. 1, 3 a leaf spring 19 is inserted between the pins 14, 16 on either side of the lever 15, and the detent means comprises a bolt 21 fixed in the arm 7 and a profiled surface 24, 23, 22, 20 of the U- shaped arm 11. When arm 11 is raised, the toggle consisting of the pivots 16, 14, 10 and the link is broken and as lifting continues the bolt 21 contacts the points 24 of the arm 11, so that the distance between the pivots 14, 16 decreases against the action of the springs 19, and the bolt moves along the surface 23 into a locking recess 20. The distance between the pivots 14, 16 then increases to a maximum and the arms attain their raised position where arm 11 is out of the vertical and is locked by the engagement of the bolt 21 and recess 20. In Fig. 5, the detent guide surface 26 is on a part 29 which is detachably mounted on the arm 11 by pins 30, 31 for quick replacement and is accommodated by the provision of a pair of wire springs 34 and a pair of toggle links 32.
