[Also in Group XXX] The stress in the load rope 3 of a winch which carries a control of a nuclear reactor, is kept between limits by the operation of switches 6, 8. The rope presses against pulley 1 mounted in carrier 4 pivoted at 5, the tension of the rope urging the carrier against the spring 13. If the tension of the rope is too small, the spring moves the carrier clockwise about pivot 5 and abutment 9 makes contact 8. If the tension of the rope is too great the rope moves the carrier anti-clockwise about pivot 5 and abutment 7 makes contact 6. When either contact is made, the winch motor is stopped.
