Abstract
633,396. Electromagnetic switches. CRABTREE & CO., Ltd., J. A., BESAG, E., HILL, W. E., and WINTLE, T. D. G. Aug. 14, 1947, Nos. 22587/47 and 4735/48. [Class 38 (v)] The horizontally - guided armature i of a switch suitable for starting 3-phase motors is pivotally supported by a carrier a to permit move. ment of the armature with a minimum of friction. The E - shape armature i carries a contact - holder h guided, with clearance, between upper and lower boxes n, c, and has hooks o pivotally engaging limbs a<SP>2</SP> of the carrier a which itself is pivoted at the lower corners a<SP>1</SP>. Spring-urged telescopic links f press between the carrier a and the box c, and as the armature i is attracted by the magnet k to close the contacts 4, 5, the lever arm with which the links f act upon the carrier a about the corners a<SP>1</SP> decreases, so that the force necessary to move the carrier becomes less and consequently stronger tension springs 6 can be used for mounting the contacts 4 on the holder h. Rearwardly-extending arms p on the carrier a protrude into openings in a transverse member r guided for vertical movement in an auxiliary box c<SP>1</SP> and supporting spring-urged contacts s which co-operate with fixed contacts t. The contacts s, t serve for changing the connections from star to delta or for speed changes and are arranged to make before and break after the contacts 4, 5 so as to confine contact wear to the latter. According to the first Provisional Specification, the holder h is pivotally mounted on the carrier a and has recesses co-operating with guiding-ribs on the boxes n, c, which are also provided with abutments for limiting movement of the holder. The second Provisional Specification states that the armature is secured to the holder by a spring clip. Specification 633,393 is referred to.
