Abstract
633,393. Electromagnetic switches. CRABTREE & CO., Ltd., J. A., BESAG, E., HILL, W. E., and WINTLE, T. D. G. Aug. 14, 1947, Nos. 22580/47, 22586/47, 4733/48 and 4734/48. [Class 38 (v)] An electromagnetic switch suitable for use in a motor protection system comprises upper and lower boxes b, c carrying the fixed contacts r, r<SP>1</SP> and detachably mounted on a back-plate a, and an armature f slidably mounted between the boxes and carrying the moving contacts p which are moved into engagement with the fixed contacts on energization of a coil e surrounding a magnet d also detachably mounted on the plate a. The magnet and armature are both E-shaped, the coil e surrounding the central limb of the E. The upper box b is secured to the back-plate a by inserting studs 9 into holes 11 and then lowering the box from its dotted line position till it rests on the flange el. In this position lugs 7 also rest on bolts 5 which have been unscrewed sufficiently from brushes 6 in the plate a for the lugs 7 to clear the heads of the bolts when the box was lowered. The bolts 5 are then screwed in into the position shown, securing the box to the plate a. Fig. 8 shows a modified form of bridging contact carried by the armature. It comprises two contact parts 12 and a common plate 13 pressed against them by springs 19. On engaging the fixed contacts, the parts 12 pivot about their . ends 22.
