The carriage for a chain driven draw-bench has a yieldable claw engaging the chain to permit firm engagement when the chain is moving at high speed. In examples a carriage 10, Fig. 1, is coupled to the chain 7 through a claw 1 pivoted to the draw arm 2 and yieldingly held in position by a spring 4. When the draw arm 2 is lowered by engagement of a push rod 8 with a fixed stop 9 the claw 1 readily engages the moving chain 7 and cushions against strong plate springs 6 on the arm. In a similar arrangement, Fig. 3 (not shown), the claw is slidable on the draw arm and yieldingly located between a pair of springs. In another example the draw arm 35, Fig. 4, is pivoted on an arm 32 which is yieldingly held in the raised position by a spring 37. When the arm 32 is lowered by engagement of the push rod 40 with a projection 41 the hook end engages the chain 39 and the arm 32 is drawn down against the spring 37. On release from the chain a spring 42 assists the spring 37 to raise the arms. In another example the draw arm 43, Fig. 5, has a slot 44 which is slidable over a pin 45 on the draw-carriage. On lowering of the arm by the push rod 46 the arm 43 yields against the spring 47 on the push rod until the end of the slot 44 is reached.
