Abstract
427,210. Railway stops. HADFIELDS, Ltd., and WHEELER, P., East Hecla Works, Sheffield. Jan. 22, 1934, No. 2188. [Class 104 (ii)] Apparatus for arresting runaway tubs &c. in mines &c. comprises a frame 3 slidably mounted on divergent rails 4, 4<a> arranged between the track rails 1, 1<a> and supporting by a pivot 11 a vertically movable hook member 12 adapted in its raised position to engage an axle of the tub. The member 12 is raised by means of a striker plate 22 engaged by the axles of the tubs and pivoted on one end of a lever 17<a> rocking on a pivot 15 and connected by a pin 18 to a trunnion block 19 slidable in a slot 20 in the member 12. At normal speeds the tubs do not depress the striker end of the lever 17<a> sufficiently to raise the hook 12<a> into the path of the back axle 14, but at higher speeds the hook engages the axle and the tub is gradually arrested by the friction braking of the frame 3 sliding along the rails 4, 4<a> which are brought into parallel relation against the action of a transverse spring as the frame 3 slides along them. The position of the plate 22 may be adjusted vertically by means of a wedge between the base of the frame 3 and an extension of the member 12. The member 12 is locked in the engaging position by a shoulder 24<a> on an arm 24 engaging the block 19.
