Axle stops comprising a trip lever 4 and a spring-controlled stop lever 6 have a buffer spring 10 engaging the short arm 8<1> of a lever 8 in contact with the stop lever 6. The lever 8 has a roller 7 bearing on an inclined surface on a crosspiece 11 between the parallel arms of the stop lever, the arms being spaced apart to pass the couplings of a truck.
