1506891 Track brakes WHEYWAY WATSON (ME) Ltd 18 Feb 1976 [19 Feb 1975 12 Sept 1975] 6939/75 and 37539/75 Heading F2E [Also in Division B7] An arresting device for rail mounted vehicles 11 on a primary track 10 comprises a stop carriage 31 slidably mounted on a secondary track 17, the carriage 31 carrying stop means including a lever 28 movable to an operative vehicle-contacting position and to an inoperative retracted position, and means permitting limited movement of the carriage along the secondary track when the stop means engage a vehicle 14 and terminating such movement to arrest the vehicle. The stop carriage 31 comprises plates 30, 32 which frictionally engage the secondary track rails 17 to brake sliding movement of the carriage. Sufficient sliding of carriage 31 brings it into sequential abutment with arrestor carriages 40 which also comprise plates frictionally engaging the rails 17 to provide additional braking. Levers 28 are gravity-biased to their inoperative position but manual operation of a lever 23 revolves cams 26 which lift the levers 28 into the path of axles 15 of vehicles 11 such as cable-hauled mine cars. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the stop levers 28 are gravity biased to their operative position but are normally held in inoperative position by disengageable links (62); and an arrestor carriage (56) normally spaced from the stop carriage 31 carries a retaining lever (50) which can hold the lever 28 in its operative position when the stop carriage 31 has been forced into abutment with the arrestor carriage (56).
