Abstract

In a mechanical garage of the kind in which vehicle-carrying platforms are movable in line along fixed horizontal rail tracks 3, 4 on each of two or more floors such as 1, 2, and are transferred between the floors by lifts 5, 6 situated one at each end of all the floors, means 11 are provided to bridge the gaps between the tracks such as 4 and aligned tracks 7 in the lifts. The fixed rails 8 constituting the tracks 3 and 4 have bevelled ends 9 and are pivoted at 14 to similarly bevelled track extensions 10. The lower edges of the latter carry bifurcated projections 16 engageable with a retaining stop 17, Fig. 3, carried by the lift tracks 7. The platforms, which may each comprise two separate sections 22, 23 (Fig. 4) one each for the front and rear wheels of a vehicle, are moved sideways-on along the fixed rails 8 by a pair of pushers 32 in each lift. These pushers are advanced and retracted by oscillation of a lever arm 27 through a pin-and-slot connection 25-26 with a rotary disc 24. This arrangement ensures that the platform velocity increases during the first half and decreases during the second half of the pusher stroke. The vehicles are driven on to the platforms in the lift at the entrance and are appropriately guided thereonto by wheel engaging members 35 to 39, Fig. 5 (not shown) in the lift.
