Axle stops of the kind described in Specification 244,681 have the trip and stop levers on separate pivots, the part of the trip lever which engages the stop lever or an intermediate lever being adjustable. The stop lever 1 is engaged by a roller 13, Fig. 3, adjustable along the arm 10 of the trip lever 17, the levers 1, 17 being mounted on pivots 2, 11 in a frame 3 carried on sleepers 4 frictionally clipped to the rails 5 so that the sleepers may be moved along the rails by a force sufficient to overcome the friction. In a modification, Fig. 5, the roller 13a is fixed on the arm 10<b> which is adjustable by a screw 11<a> with respect to the lever 17. One lever 17 may operate two levers 1 mounted on a shaft 2. Buffer stops.-The trip 26, Fig. 7, has an arm 24 engaging the stop 20 through an intermediate lever 23. The rollers carried by the levers 23, 24 may be adjustable, or the arm 24 may be adjustable with respect to the lever 26, as in the modifications of Figs. 3 and 5.
