Abstract

645,153. Lever load-handling machines. LEGG, W. Jan. 14, 1948, No. 1111. [Class 78 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXII] A device for lifting sacks comprises an arcuate based frame in which is pivoted a sack supporting lever 12 and which has a rear fulcrum 19 about which said frame can be tilted to partly lift the sack whereafter further lifting of the sack is effected by pivoting lever 12. The supporting lever 12, which has arms 23, 24 carrying supporting frames 26, 27 is pivoted to the base frame at 13 so that when the sack has been raised it may be tilted together with arm 24, to a vertical position, Fig. 6, so further lifting the sack and facilitating its removal. A guide bar 29 pivoted to the arm 24 at 30 and sliding in a guide 31 steadies and guides the arm 24 when it is being tilted to a vertical position in which it is locked by the engagement of a slot 32 with a pin 31A in the guide 31. A spring 35 is provided to assist and control movement of the arm 24. To enable the device to be used on soft ground, the ground engaging stop 19 may have a strip of angle bar attached thereto and the space between the supports 33 may be closed in. Alternatively the supports 33 may be constructed from angle bar.
