919,042. Elastic-fluid turbines. SULZER FRERES S.A. March 17, 1960 [March 18, 1959], No. 9461/60. Class 110 (3). The rotor 2 of a radial inward flow reaction turbine rotates in a casing which is centrally divided into two parts 2 and 3 and formed with a spiral passage 7 opening directly on to the rotor without the interposition of guide blades. A collection channel 13 into which solid or liquid impurities are thrown by centrifugal force, communicates with the outer periphery of the spiral passage. The impurities are expelled through a pipe 14 when its valve 15 is opened. The cross-section of the passage 7 is substantially hexagonal and the opposite walls 8, parallel to the central division plane of the casing comprise partitions 8 connected to mechanism 10, 11, so as to be displaceable axially relative to the turbine.
