Abstract
996,267. Pressure exchangers; rotary motors. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT) Ltd. May 16, 1963 [May 17, 1962, June 14, 1962], No. 19146/62, 22889/62 and 22890/62. Addition to 936,427. Headings F1F and F1N. In a pressure exchanger having cells of variable volume formed by radial vanes 2, Fig. 1, slidably mounted round the periphery of a rotor 1 surrounded by a shroud 5 and disposed between end plates 6, 7 connected to ducting as claimed in the parent Specification high pressure gas is admitted through a duct 11, Fig. 2, and a port 8 to the cells at their position of minimum volume and also through a duct 12 and a port 10 at a position displaced from that of minimum volume in the direction of cell rotation thereby assisting starting of the cells which are self-driving. A non- return valve 13 automatically closes as pressure build-up proceeds. Each vane has lugs 2a, Fig. 3 (not shown) tracking guideways in the end plates and in a modification rotor end caps 21, 22, Fig. 5, are secured by bolts 23 and have bores 29, 30 by which cooling fluid may be passed through the rotor 1. A power take-off shaft may be secured to either end caps 21, 22.
