Abstract

[Class 110 (i)] [Also in Group XXXIII] A device, for use in a gaseous or liquid medium and suitable for a fan, comprises a rotary hub member with one or more apertures for the discharge therethrough under pressure of one or more streams of gaseous or liquid fluid each having an aerofoil crosssection. The hub may be driven by a controllable motor, or by the reaction of the discharged fluid and a suitable braking device, and the inclination of the axes of the apertures relative to that of the hub may be variable. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the hub 28 has two sets of oppositely inclined radial apertures 29, 30 and is surrounded by a casing 31 with outlets 32. The diameter of the inlet of the casing may be varied as by means of a manually or automatically operated diaphragm shutter. Instead of radially, the apertures may be directed axially or at an angle.
