Abstract
PURPOSE: To combine the functions of an inlet valve and a guide vane into a gate so that a constitution may be simplified and cost involved be minimized, by providing a cylindrical gate concentric with a runner in a freely moving fashion in parallel with the axis of the water wheel, in an annular water flow passag between a liner and a casing.
CONSTITUTION: Inside a stay vane 2 for a runner 3 on a Francis turbine, a cylindrical gate 4 concentric with the runner 3 is provided in an annular water passage between the runner 3 and a volute casing 1. The gate 4 juts out from an annular guide groove 6 on an upper cover 5 towards a lower cover 7. On the upper end of the gate 4, a proper number of operating rods 8 are fixed and are connected to a servomotor not illustrated. In addition, inside the upper cover 5, a pressuized chamber 11 is formed and the pressurized chamber 11 communicates with the casing 1 through the intermediary of a valve 12. When the aforementioned gate 4 is casued to descend, a valve 13 which communicates with an atmosphere is closed and the valve 12 is opened. Then water inside the casing 1 is conducted into the pressuirzed chamber 11 so that the gate 4 may easily descend.
