Abstract

915,791. Mixing liquids in flow. MINIMAX A.G. March 30, 1960 [April 1, 1959], No. 11161/60. Class 86. [Also in Group XXIX] A device for adding a secondary liquid to a flow of water comprises a tank 1 having a connection 4 to a primary flow in a pipe 3 upstream of a pressure-difference orifice in a fixed diaphragm 17. A flexible diaphragm 2 in the tank 1 separates the water entering therein from a body of secondary liquid (e.g. disinfectant) which is expelled through a pipe 9 and a combined flow-controlling and check valve 10 to a mixing chamber 5 downstream of the fixed diaphragm 17. The check valve, Fig. 2, prevents diffusion of the secondary liquid into the primary liquid when the outlets 7, 8 are closed and comprises a flexible diaphragm 12 carrying a valve closure member 13 which, when there is no outflow through the apparatus, is maintained in contact with the valve seat 16 by a spring 15. Flow in the pipe 3 and consequent pressure-difference between the pipe 9 and the mixing chamber 5 will lift the valve member 13 and permit flow of the secondary liquid through the metering orifice 14 therein.
