888,217. Forcing liquids by gaseous pressure. GULF RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO. March 17, 1959 [April 30, 1958], No. 9140/59. Class 102(2). [Also in Group XXIX] A gravity operated valve device for fitment as shown within an invertible pressurized dispenser to admit the liquid contents into the normal education passageway thereof when the dispenser is operated in the inverted position but which closes to prevent escape of pressurizing gas when the dispenser is operated in the upright position, comprises a body part 18 formed with a flow passage 22 extending therethrough, a laterally projecting shoulder 20 on this body part providing a valve seating surface 24, a branch passage 21 in the body part extending between the flow passage and the seating surface, and a gravity operated valve ring member 19 encircling the body part and seating by gravity on the seating surface to mask the branch passage when the device is upright, and unseating by gravity from the seating surface to unmask the branch passage when the device is inverted. In a modification, the seating surface is provided on a conical shoulder and the valve member is a coned ring ; or the valve member may be a flat seating flanged ring and may have a depending skirt which goes over the periphery of the shoulder 20.
