Abstract
764,114. Mixing fluids in flow. FOERSTNER, W., [trading as TOTAL KOMM.-GES. FOERSTNER & CO.]. Jan. 11, 1955 [Jan. 14, 1954, Nov. 17, 1954], No. 850/55. Class 86 A mixing device for fire-extinguishing installations comprises a main duct 13 through which the main stream of liquid is pumped by a centrifugal pump 1 and a duct 15 through which secondary liquid is supplied from an open-topped tank 12 to a venturi tube located in the main duct 13. The pressure of the secondary liquid is brought to that existing in the venturi tube by a pressure equalizer 5 and an apertured diaphragm 6. The pressure equalizer 5 comprises a cylindrical housing containing a control piston 9 to the underside of which is attached a ring which acts as a valve on the flow through duct 15. A duct 7 conveys extinguishing' water from the main duct 13 to the space above the piston 9. In a modification the pressure equalizer 5 is dispersed with and the base areas of the storage containers are so dimensioned, with regard to the mixing proportion to be maintained, that the difference in levels of the two liquids h is maintained substantially constant.
