Dec. 7, 1956 [Dec. 7, 1955], No. 37471/56. Class 135. In apparatus for discharging liquid under a substantially constant head comprising a storage vessel 1 in communication with a reservoir 3 through a connecting pipe 2, an air space 12 formed in the reservoir above the rim of the connecting pipe is sealed against ambient atmosphere as long as the connecting pipe dips into the liquid in the reservoir and liquid flows from the reservoir over a weir 8 contained in a shroud 9 and subject to the pressure of the airspace 12 before passing through a U-tube monometer like airlock 11, 13 to a consumer connection, the amount of liquid supplied to weir 8 being controlled by a throttle valve 6. The Specification also describes how a thermallycontrolled feed may be incorporated in the above apparatus, and how the invention may be used in conjunction with a sealed storage vessel, Fig. 3 (not shown).
