Abstract
1,193,070. Regulating fluid-flow. R.A. STAGG and D.A. COOPER. Sept.25, 1967 [Oct. 1, 1966], No. 43959/66. Heading G3H. Apparatus for dispensing small quantities of liquid at a controlled rate, e.g. for supplying additive solutions to sewage effluent, comprises a sealed storage vessel 1 from which the liquid is fed through a valve 6 and dip tube 9 to a balancing jar 3. A second dip tube 10 connects this jar to a sealed dispensing cylinder 2 which is connected through a third dip tube 11 and a valve 7 to the space above the liquid in vessel 1. A control valve 5 admits atmospheric air to the cylinder 2 of which the bottom is connected to an outlet U- tube 4. The difference between level Y in jar 3 and the point of connection of tube 10 to cylinder 2 is greater than the difference between outlet level Z of the U-tube and level X in the cylinder 2 but not greater than the distance of the bottom of vessel 1 above level Y. The apparatus cycles automatically between a condition in which the levels in vessel 1 and jar 3 are balanced whilst cylinder 2 drains to the U-tube at a rate set by air valve 5, and a condition following uncovering of the end of dip tube 11, during which further liquid is drawn up through dip tube 10 until the levels are restored. The balancing jar 3 compensates for ambient temperature variations,
