Abstract

1412333 Stabilizing ships H HALDEN 20 Feb 1973 [30 Jan 1973] 8248/73 Heading B7M [Also in Division F2] Closure devices 4 have closable air discharge and admission orifices 10 and shut-off plates 9 for the orifices shut-off the air spaces of lateral tanks such as 2a, 2b of a ship's stabization system. Each orifice is in an end portion of a laterally perforated housing element 10a fixed to the ship's hull 8 and having a vertical axis. The shut-off plate of each device is moved coaxially with the housing element by drive 11 arranged at the end of the element remote from the orifice. The embodiment shown is used to stabilize rolling. In that of Fig. 4 (not shown) water is urged through a pipe attached to the device to compensate keeling.
