Abstract

1,073,151. Tankers. ESSO RESEARCH & ENGINEERING CO. Jan. 5, 1965 [Jan. 9, 1964], No. 1021/64. Headings B7A and B7V. A tanker has a duct (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown) rigidly fixed to and an integral part of the bottom of the cargo space along the centre line of the ship and above the keel plate, the duct extending the major part of the length of the vessel and being adapted to receive the liquid cargo through suction pipes through which said cargo can be pumped for discharge from the ship. A second duct fixed to and integral with the cargo-receiving duct is used for jetting sea water to give thrusts for assisting the ship's manoeuvres, the openings of, and control system for, this propulsion duct system being indicated in Fig. 4 (not shown). Cargo from the cargo trunk is first pumped to a discharge trunk on or (as in Fig. 3b, not shown) under and integral with the upper desk.
