Abstract
1312599 Unloading liquids MITSUI SHIPBUILDING & ENG CO Ltd 15 March 1972 [19 March 1971] 12011/72 Heading B8E A floating structure, Figs. 3, 4, for unloading liquid cargo has an upright portion 8 and a horizontal portion which includes ballast tanks 11, an unloading pump 13, connection ports 25 for connection to an opening in the bottom of a ship and in connection with the pump and a discharge pipe on the pump for connection to a pipe leading ashore. In use, the ballast tanks are opened to admit sea water and the structure is manoeuvred alongside a ship, Fig. 7. The tanks are now partly emptied so that the structure is held tightly against the ship's bottom by buoyancy. Seals 20, Fig. 9, surround the hole in the ship's bottom. Water is drained from a space 21 through a pipe 22 and a man enters the space 21 through an opening 23 and connects a flexible pipe 26 between the hole in the ship's bottom and an appropriate one of ports 25.
