Abstract

[Also in Division F2] A separator for gases entrained by liquid comprises a separation chamber and a drainage tank, the communication between them being controlled by a valve, and the valve being by-passed by a secondary flow-path, the secondary flow path including a restricted portion, the entry of liquid into the secondary flow path being controlled by an obturator itself controlled by a float in the separation chamber, and the position of the valve being controlled by the difference in pressure between the separation chamber and that part of the secondary flow-path situated upstream of the restricted portion. In Fig. 1, diaphragm 2 of valve 3 divides separation chamber 11 from by-pass chamber 6. When the pressure of gas in chamber 11 causes float 7 to be lowered, the by-pass route 10-6-4-12 is closed. The increased pressure in 11 causes valve 3 to open permitting liquid to flow through passage 5 into drainage chamber 12 (Fig. 2 not shown). In the apparatus of Fig. 3 (not shown), if the delivery from chamber 16 is slowed down or stopped, the consequent rise in pressure in chamber 15 causes the partial or complete closure of duct 17 by piston 28.
