Abstract

1370107 Stabilizing ships SPERRY RAND CORP 12 Nov 1971 [28 Dec 1970] 52655/71 Heading B7M A ship stabilizing system comprises a first tank 8 and a second tank 8a on opposite sides of the ship, both adapted to contain ballast liquid. Actuator 25 transfers ballast liquid from one tank to the other through ducts 40, 41, 41a by direct positive displacement and cross duct 40 is located higher in the hull than the tanks. In the embodiment shown the flow of liquid to duct 40 is vertical but in Fig. 3 (not shown) the corresponding cross duct 140 is offset along the fore and aft axis of the ship which assists to counteract yawing.
