Fixedchamber apparatus.-Comprises means for compensating for small variations in the quantity of liquid delivered by a measuring chamber due to different rates of supply and discharge. For instance, the control cock of a measuring chamber is often closed automatically in constant times whereas the supply pump may work at various speeds resulting in slight variations in the total quantity delivered to the measuring chamber. Alongside the measuring chamber 1 is arranged a pipe 3 in communication with the chamber at the bottom below zero level 2-2 and in communication at the top with a small bore pipe 7. The chamber is filled by suction, and the supply pipe being of large diameter than the pipe 6, the liquid rises to a higher level in the chamber 1 than in the pipe 3. When the supply is shut off the levels in the pipe and chamber adjust, themselves to a common level. The capacity of the pipe 3 can be varied by introducing bodies 8 screwed on a rod 9 depending from the cap 4. By a suitable dimensioning of the pipes accurate compensation is effected. The device also acts to keep the quantity delivered constant when the discharge takes place under pressure. When the liquid is merely pumped into a chamber at or above, atmospheric pressure, the tube 3 is fitted with a pipe 7<a> to the atmosphere. Specification 234,857 is referred to.
