A machine for dispensing successive measured quantities of liquid, such as water, to a cement mixer comprises a measuring chamber 7 having a stand pipe 6 leading to a discharge duct 5 for releasing the liquid in the chamber above the level of the upper inlet end of the pipe, a pipe connection 4 controlled by a valve 2 for filling the chamber to a predetermined level through the stand pipe, and means 8, 9 for relatively adjusting the pipe 6 and chamber so as to thereby adjust the volume of the measured quantity to be dispersed. The measuring chamber 7 is provided with a threaded spindle 8 which, upon rotation in a fixed bracket 11, adjusts the height of the chamber relatively to the stand pipe. The stand pipe 6 is connected at its lower end to the valve 2 and slidable, through a gland 13, into the interior of the chamber. In operation, with the valve in the position shown, water is fed from a header tank through the pipe 4, valve 2 and pipe 6 into the chamber 7 until by the connection of a riser vent 18 and riser tube rising above the level of the liquid in the header tank, the liquid level in the riser tube is the same as that in the header tank; the valve 2 is then rotated by a handle 3 so as to connect the duct 5 with the stand pipe 6, water then discharging from the chamber until the level of water therein corresponds with the top of the pipe 6; the handle 3 may be replaced by a solenoid and the stand pipe arranged to be interchangeable with another of a diffrent length. In a modification, the bracket 11 is formed with a slot so that it, together with the screw 8, may be raised or lowered and thus increase the range of adjustment of the chamber 7.
