Abstract
1,111,524. Delivering measured quantities of liquid. S.B.D. CONSTRUCTION PRODUCTS Ltd. 2 May, 1966 [18 May, 1965], No. 20906/65. Heading B8N. A device for dispensing measured quantities of liquid comprises a piston 10 adjustable in a cylinder 4 so as to define a variable capacity measuring chamber 10a, a changeover valve 29 for selectively connecting a liquid source 1, Fig. 1, or a discharge outlet to the chamber, and a vent pipe 18 leading to a point above the equivalent height of the highest effective barometric head of the liquid source. As applied to the adding of an additive such as a plasticizer, to water flowing in a pipe 2 leading to a concrete mixing plant, the liquid additive is contained in a reservoir 1 which is coupled to an inlet 35 in the lower end of the cylinder, an outlet from the latter being connected via a pipe 6 and nozzle 3, to the water pipe 2. In operation, upon rotating the valve by means of a handle 32, liquid flows from the reservoir into the measuring chamber and also rises in the vent pipe 18; the piston is held in its desired position, as determined by a scale 26, by means of a thumb screw and the valve may be remotely controlled mechanically by cables or by a servomotor. In modifications in order to maintain a substantially constant head of liquid, the reservoir may be fed from a large storage container or a pump may be connected in the supply line 5.
