Abstract

678,859. Powder distributers. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. May 23, 1951 [May 23, 1950], No. 12873/50. Class 18. [Also in Group XVIII]. A device for supplying measured quantities of powdered fertilizer in the vicinity of plant roots comprises a container 1 having a nozzle 9, a hand-operated spring-loaded plunger 6 with a reduced portion 16 which expels the quantity of material contained in the bore 12 of the nozzle, and a member 8 which rides on top of the material in the container until the material is exhausted, when a spring- loaded stop 20 engages under the shoulder at the top of the reduced portion 16 and prevents it from entering the nozzle. Tread plates 10 are provided on the nozzle to assist in forcing it into the soil. If the material is sufficiently self-packing and requires ejection, the quantity measured may be varied by restricting the plunger stroke by means of packing 30. To refill the container, the nozzle is removed, a tubular tool is fitted over the reduced portion to retract the stop 20 and the member 8 is allowed to fall back to the top of the container.
