Abstract

1,101,939. Nozzles. SHELL INTERNTIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 22 Nov., 1965, No. 49513/65. Heading B2F. [Also in Division B8] An apparatus for dispensing measured quantities of granular material, such as pesticides, fertilizers or seeds, comprises a metering device connected to a storage container 3 via a tube 3 and an inertia mechanism adapted to cause the metering device to dispense, periodically, measured quantities of material. The metering device may comprise a rotary disc 26 having measuring chambers 33, 34 and rotatable by means of an inertia weight 37 between two plates 20, 21. The plate 20 is provided with inlets 30, 31 communicating with the container via the tube 3 and the plate 21 with an outlet port 35. In use, upon a quick rotary movement of the tube 3, the disc 20 rotates so that the chamber 33 or 34 first aligns with either the inlet 30 or 31 and then with the outlet 35. In modifications, the metering device may comprise a rotary cylindrical member or reciprocating member having a measuring chamber adapted to be aligned alternately with the inlet and then the outlet.
