[Also in Groups XVII, XVIII, XIX and XXIX] A mechanism for measuring the quantity of liquid discharged from a dispensing apparatus (see Group XVIII) comprises a shaft 72 driven by a paddle (not shown) and carrying within a pressure chamber 71, a cylinder 7 2 provided with bores 74 which, when aligned with windows 77 in the chamber walls, allow light from a source 75 to fall on to a photo-electric cell 76. A counting mechanism (not shown) counts the number of pulses and thereby measures the quantity of liquid discharged.
