1,091,215. Delivering measured quantities of liquid or granular material. A. E. SKINNER. June 28, 1965, No. 27265/65. Heading B8N. An apparatus for dispensing a measured quantity of liquid or granular material comprises a valve body 2 rotatable in a housing 1 having inlet and outlet ports 8, 9 and a piston 7 slidable in a passage 6 in the valve body so that during rotational movement of the body, the passage can be aligned with the ports. The valve body is pivoted on shafts 3, 3<SP>1</SP> and, together with the piston and housing, may be made from glass, metal or plastic; the mating surfaces are coated with or fitted with rings made of a self-lubricating material such as P.T.F.E. or nylon. Alternatively the parts may be made entirely of such materials. The piston may be of any suitable cross-section such as rectangular, square, elliptical or circular; when of circular cross-section, the piston may be prevented from turning by means of a key-and-slot device or magnetic device. In order to indicate when the material has been fully dispensed, holes may be formed in the wall of the housing, the valve body and piston and then filled with a transparent material. When all the holes are in alignment a beam of light is able to pass through and actuate a photoelectric cell which may then cause the valve body to be rotated automatically for another dispensing operation or operate a counter. In order to vary the amount of material dispensed, pistons of different length may be fitted.
