An apparatus for delivering measured quantities of liquid or granular material from a container 1 comprises a piston 7 adapted to be reciprocated together with a partial rotation and provided with a recess 8 which can be moved into the container, the recess upon withdrawal from the container being arranged to align with an outlet port 6. The recess may be in the form of an annular space as shown or, as a bore or blind pocket in the piston. The apparatus may be used for sampling purposes.
