Abstract
1353981 Delivering measured quantities of granular material APPLICATION ENG CORP 16 July 1971 [17 July 1970 (3)] 33641/71 Heading B8N [Also in Division B1] A first particulate material is metered to a mixing apparatus (see Division B1) by a device comprising a rotatable annular disc 78, Fig. 6, having a plurality of depending metering tubes 83 (see also Fig. 5, not shown) filled and discharged respectively by passage in succession under a supply tube 88 and over a discharge tube 73as the disc 78 rotates. A second, more finely pulverulent material is contained in a vessel 103, Fig. 14, which has in the base a rotatable disc having a flat annular peripheral portion 123 of appreciable thickness in which are metering apertures or pockets 124 (see also Fig. 15, not shown) which discharge as they pass in succession over tube 99, direct discharge of the container contents to tube 99 being prevented by member 128; discharge may be assisted by a spring arm (131, Fig. 16, not shown) having an ejector end portion which enters the discharging pocket from above. Rotation of the metering disc may be controlled by level sensing piston 114. A third particulate material is metered by supply from a hopper 155, Figs. 20 and 21, by gravity to a horizontal cylinder 152 wherein it forms a heap; movement of an elastomeric piston 159 from the position of Fig. 21, to that of Fig. 20, pushes the heap towards the outlet 154, and retraction allows further material to flow into the space between the heap and the piston. Eventually reciprocation of the piston causes successive equal amounts to cascade from the heap over the edge 203 of the outlet.
