Abstract

931,117. Discharging material from a hopper. W. BUCHANAN. Feb. 21, 1961 [Feb. 22, 1960], No. 6145/60. Class 78 (1). Material is fed from a container 3, which is divided into upper and lower parts by a partition 4. The material in the upper part is agitated by agitator 7 and by pusher 4, and falls through holes in the partition into the lower part of the container 3 where it is agitated by agitator 7 and by arms 11, and falls through holes 2a into chamber 1. Here it is agitated by screw 16 which moves the material sideways, by a second agitator 16 formed with a reverse screw to move it to the opposite sideways direction, and by a disc 17 formed with blades 19 and provided with apertures 18 through which the material passes from side to side. The material is discharged from chamber 1 at a predetermined rate through opening 20 and is then conveyed away by screw 22, discharge through opening 20 being assisted by pushers 23 and brushes 24 provided on rotating disc 17.
