937,000. Dosing apparatus. BARROW HEPBURN & GALE Ltd. Jan. 19, 1962 [Jan. 20, 1961], No. 2430/61. Class 86. In a device for dosing water in a tank 9 with reagent contained in a dispensing chamber 3, the reagent is maintained at a constant level in the dispensing chamber by a gravity feed tube 2 from a reservoir 1; reagent flows into the dispersing chamber whenever the level therein falls sufficiently to uncover the bottom of an air tube 14. When the tank 9 is refilled, air is compressed in the bell 13 and pipe 12, deflecting the diaphragm 23 in the valve 11 to close the vent 25; the increased pressure is then transmitted through the restricted passage 24 and pipe 10 to the space over the reagent in the dispensing chamber, causing rise in level in the bell 6 and overflow of reagent down the tubes 7, 8. When pressure has thus become equalized in the pipes 10, 12 the vent 25 opens so that the liquid in bell 13 and dispensing chamber 3 is under atmospheric pressure ; the level in bell 4 now falls below the end of air tube 14. The air tube has a restriction 16 to prevent surging and a chamber 15 to prevent reagent introduced into the tube when the apparatus is charged being drawn through the tube.
