Abstract

931,612. Devices for watering plants. B. KAISER. May 30, 1961 [June 7, 1960], No. 19393/61. Class 6(2). A device for watering plants comprises a container 28 having a controllable air inlet 40 on its upper end and, Fig. 4, an outlet 32 arranged above a container 35 provided with distributing tubes 36 which feed water to the plants by means of threads 38. The inlet 40 receives the end 41 of a cup 42 provided with a stopper 46 of ceramic material, water being provided in the spaces 47-49 so that water flows from the outlet 32 only when the water in the spacer has evaporated and the stopper dried out to allow air to pass through the stopper. In a modification the cup 42 is formed integral with the container and the water outlet is formed at the end of tube 34, the container 35 and threads 38 being omitted in this case. The water container may also be closed by a rubber tube fixed to the part 28 and held closed by a hose clamp. In Fig. 2 the air inlet to the water container 7 is provided by a tube 15 which dips into water contained in a receptacle 14 so that water is discharged from the outlet 8 only when the water level in the receptacle 14 drops below the end 13 of the tube 15. The amount of water discharged through the outlet 8 is controlled by a valve 16.
