Abstract
809,402. Hand-irons. PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN N.V. Aug. 20, 1957 [Aug. 23, 1956], No. 26280/57. Class 138 (2). In a steam smoothing-iron comprising a heater element 2 and a liquid, e.g. water, container 3 communicating with an evaporation chamber 5 having one or more outlets for the vapour, the chamber 5 has an opening 6 for the supply of water from the container 3 which is controlled by a valve part 9 carried by a regulating cock 8, the chamber having a conduit 10 for the exhaust of vapour with an opening 11 in the steam dome 12, conduit 13 passing therefrom to outlet opening(s) 14 in the sole plate 1. The container 3 is filled through an opening 4. The chamber 5 has porous, e.g. ceramic, material 15 to obtain even evaporation. In a modification the regulating cock may comprise a vertical hollow spindle the duct of which communicates with the chamber 5 at one end and with the dome 12 at the other for the passage of vapour.
