Abstract
1304793 Evaporators; spray-drying P R LAGUILHARRE 19 Jan 1971 [20 Feb 1970] 2496/71 Heading B1B In an apparatus for producing dried powder from liquid containing dissolved and/or suspended solid material by atomizing the liquid through nozzles 4 into chamber 1 which is supplied with drying air through duct 3, the powder is discharged through duct 5, and moist air carrying a powder fraction flows through aperture 6 into separator 2 which is supplied with auxiliary air through pipes 14 whereby the powder is separated from the moist air and is carried back through annular outlet 12 to chamber 1 by means of the auxiliary air. Moist air leaves separator 2 through outlet 13. Secondary air is introduced into chamber 1 through pipes 7 which are directed in such a manner that the secondary air has a downward helicoidal movement in the chamber. Pipes 14 are directed in such a manner that the auxiliary air has a rising helicoidal movement in separator 2. Differential-pressure measuring device 21 and regulator 21a control the flow of air passing through outlet 12 from separator 2 into chamber 1. Regulator 21a may act on valves controlling the rate of flow of the secondary air and the auxiliary air. Apparatus is described (Fig. 9, not shown) wherein the separator is connected to a further separator which is supplied with auxiliary air at a different temperature or degree of humidity. Apparatus employing a drying chamber and a separator arranged horizontally is also described (Figs. 5 to 8, not shown).
