Abstract
694,404. Treating gases with liquids. RESEARCH CORPORATION. Sept. 11, 1951 [Sept. 29, 1950], No. 21372/51. Class 55(ii) In apparatus for conditioning hot gases by water sprays, particularly gases passing to electrical precipitators for removal of suspended solids; a chamber 10 having spray heads 14 and gas inlet and outlet 11, 12 has means for directing at least part of the hot gases into parts of the chamber where unevaporated water is liable to accumulate before being subjected to the sprays. As shown, a by-pass conduit 17 from the inlet pipe admits gas into the bottom of the chamber, the main flow descending a skirt 13 defining the spray chamber and passing upwardly through the annular space surrounding it to the outlet. Another construction provides a gas inlet at the top of the annular passage and an outlet at the top of the chamber.
