Abstract

915,770. Collapsible boats. HOLT, W. J. H., and SHEPHERD, V. G. March 17, 1953 [April 18, 1952], No. 9874/52. Class 113. A collapsible boat comprises a framework of stretchers 5 secured at each end to ties 3 that pivot about bolts 4 in transoms at the ends of the keel 1. Floor boards 22 are pivoted to the lowest stretchers at 24 and are joined together with double hinges 23 which straddle the keel. The outer stretchers serve as gunwales and three pairs of struts 8 are pivoted to these and to the keel or to the floor boards. Thwarts 26, 32 are hinged at the centre and are connected by double hinges 29, 30 to the gunwales so that they may be folded. The framework is covered with waterproof material 6 provided with rubbing strips 7. Openings 2a in the transoms form scull rests.
