Abstract

Collapsible boats.-A collapsible boat has a rigid keel 1 and stems 2, 3, connected to the ends by knuckle hinges, flexible longitudinal ribs 10 and gunwales 11 hinged to the stems, and means for distending the boat comprising a number of spiders 26 which slide on a fixed rod 21 and carry braces 35 which at their outer ends are connected to the flexible members. Ridge poles 61 are provided at the ends of the boat to carry canvas decks; the poles are hinged at one end to the stems, and, at the other end, slide on eye-bolts 64 which are connected with the keel and are used for raising the boat by the davit hooks. The decks are raised by additional braces on the end spiders. Air compartments are provided under the decks at each end of the boat and along the bottom, and hoses are connected at one end to the compartments and at the other end to ball floats, so that the compartments may be inflated when distending the boat in the water.
